A mechanic’s shop may seem like a strange home for Jan Kath showpiece rugs and carpets, but the studio’s abode is more than suitable for its stunning fibrous masterpieces. A stone’s throw from the AGO, the art gallery-like space boasts large garage doors that open the boutique to its McCaul St surroundings. Inside are Jan Kath’s digitized creations – photorealistic galaxies, highway billboards, ball point art, and partially “erased” Iranian Bidjars – all made from unique natural materials, and hand-knotted, handwoven and tufted in artisan communities around the world.
