Emperors and Jewels: Treasures of the Indian Courts from The al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait is a bedazzled exhibition that pulls back the curtain on men’s fashion in the opulent courts of the Moghuls, who ruled much of India from the 16th to 18th centuries. If the objects and paintings on display attest to anything, it’s that these princes of yore were iced. Their taste for diamonds and semi-precious stones like carved jade resulted in a dazzling collection of jewellery with Indian, Persian and Central Asian influences that reflects the lavishness of life at the courts – and the creativity it allowed to flourish in the jewellers of the time.
