Bid adieu to winter from the underused eastern shoreline. Here, local and international artists, designers and architects transform the lifeguard stations that dot the beaches into thought-provoking installations. Past highlights at Winter Stations include an inverted canopy made of 41 upside-down fir trees by Montreal studio PER.CH, and a Japanese-inspired hot spring basin where visitors were encouraged to soak their feet in a rare moment of urban communion.
This year’s works will again acknowledge their blustery settings, with weather-resistant structures inspired by the theme “Riot” – a universal call to act out against the turmoil and division of our current sociopolitical moment.
